Harassment Legislation in Quebec: Important Changes in Workplace
In December 2023, the Quebec government proposed significant changes in Bill 42, An Act to prevent and fight psychological harassment and sexual violence in the workplace. After a thorough consultation period and detailed analysis by a parliamentary committee, the bill received assent on March 27. Among the key amendments made was the insertion of a new section in The Labour Code (chapter C-27), emphasizing the importance of training for arbitrators handling grievances related to psychological harassment.
Training is mandatory for Arbitrators
Under the revised legislation, arbitrators must receive specific training on sexual violence in order to arbitrate grievances concerning psychological harassment. This requirement underscores the government’s commitment to addressing workplace harassment comprehensively. It ensures that arbitrators are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to handle cases sensitively and effectively.
